Summer Bucket List

I feel like I’ve been in summer mode since the beginning of June when the rain finally stopped here in Utah, but technically it’s only been summer for a few days…which means we still have months of warm summer nights. Summer is my spirit season. I LIVE for that warm sun on my body. I think it’s the California girl in me. I’ve already had some summer fun with my recent trip to CA, but I want to make the most out of the next couple of months! (esp since I’m back to school come August…)


So here’s my summer bucket list:

  • farmers market saturdays + fresh summer produce
  • cool morning//evening summer run (when the temp is 100% perfection)
  • outdoor concert. I’m thinking I’ll need to make it to this beautiful venue, but if all else fails–there are concerts down the street from me on some weekends!
  • POOL TIME [w/SPF obviously]
  • bonfire+s’mores (bonus points if it’s at the beach)
  • Make this skinny lemonade!

Summer Salad Round-up

With this hot weather, I’m craving salads and smoothies (and lots of watermelon). I thought I’d round up a little list of delish looking salads from my Pinterest Board. We are hitting up the first weekend of the Summer Farmer’s Market (!) on Saturday, so I’m excited to put together a salad with some fresh greens.

Summer Essentials (for the gym bag)

To go along with yesterday’s post about the glorious change in seasons, I wanted to talk about some of my summertime essentials for the gym bag.




1. Shorts! I usually love Nike Pro Combats, but these are some cute Under Armor shorts I came across- so great for the summertime!

2. Water bottle! I use my 20 oz shaker bottle and take that thing everywhere, but I’ve been wanting to get one of these cute glass bottles. It is SO important to stay hydrated- especially in the hot summer months.

3. LM Oil Free tinted Moisturizer. I talked about this stuff in my beauty essentials for the gym bag post. Oil free is a necessity for summertime heat.

4. Hair ties– nothing worse than sweaty hair on your neck. yuck.

5.  Sunscreen. I love this sunscreen for my body. Still looking for a good face sunscreen though (I’m thinking about trying Kiehls- I’ve loved all of their products I’ve tried). I love hiking this time of year, and it’s always smart to have this on hand!

6. A hat. I like wearing hats, but now that it’s so sunny they are an essential for keeping the sun off my face. No one wants a peeling nose!

It’s Summertime! A few tips for keeping up with your health & fitness goals this summer

Summer is [unofficially] here! Growing up in the dessert and near the ocean I didn’t experience much of a change in seasons. It was just warm, warmer, or HOT. Now that I live in Utah I live for the warm months! My body loves the sun. I baked myself into a little crisp yesterday and my husband kept telling me that I should probably take a break from being out in the sun. Finally I packed up and showed him my  {awkward} sun burn and he said “but you loved it right?”. Darn right I loved baking in that warm sun, reading my book, and drinking my smoothie. It was glorious!

Another great part of summer is how much easier it is to get my workouts in. When it’s cold and gloomy I just want to hibernate, but in the summertime I’m all about getting up and out. Here are some other reasons it’s easy to live a healthy lifestyle  and stay on top of your health and fitness goals in the warmer months:



  • fresh and yummy produce is available! Nothing better than fresh watermelon and strawberries for dessert…not to mention the fun farmer’s markets! The markets are a great way to try new and yummy produce for cheap
  • salad, salad, salad! More produce = lots of yummy salads options
  • smoothies! another benefit of more produce is lots of smoothie variety. Drink those fruits and veggies for a nice refreshing treat
  • easy outdoor/active activities. Leave the gym behind and go swim, hike, bike, paddle board,jog, or walk your little heart out. Or if it’s too hot outside, the gym is always nice and cool 😉
  • all of the summer holidays/parties are centered around the grill- one of the healthiest and tastiest ways to prepare meat and veggies! Skip the potato salad and enjoy grilled chicken or steak or a nice lean burger and some watermelon. yum!
  • races! There are all kinds of 5ks, 10ks, half marathons, etc in the spring and summer months. A fun and active way to get outside with your friends or family
